In 2011, Dr. Kornstein began using Ultherapy for post-surgical skin shrinkage (lipoplasty does not control skin contracture after fat removal) as well as a means of restoring the qualitative component to his surgical patients. Dr. Kornstein received the Ultherapy Visionary Award for his work on nonsurgical body tightening as well as peer reviewed publications using Ultherapy to remove silicone from lips and shrink nasal tip skin non-operatively.
In 2015, based on Dr. Kornstein‘s non-invasive Ultherapy results, Syneron Candela approached Dr. Kornstein to help develop body skin tightening with their new Profound® technology. Also, in 2015, a surgeon in Colorado came to New York to watch Dr. Kornstein do fat grafting procedures. At the time, he had just begun his trials using an FDA-approved helium technology for facial resurfacing as well as neck skin shrinkage. Soon thereafter, Dr. Kornstein began working with the Bovie Company (now Apyx Medical) to understand and develop this paradigm-shifting technology in an effort to shrink body skin without incisions. J Plasma/Renuvion® is to skin shrinkage what liposuction was to fat removal in the 1970s—groundbreaking—for both patient and physician.
No matter how hard one diets, works out, or uses creams, there is no way to shrink and contour skin. We lose bone and muscle as we age and our skin becomes too big, even without the addition of weight loss, pregnancy, or menopause. J Plasma/Renuvion and Profound shrink in different ways and, therefore, work better in certain areas as compared to others. Ultherapy is still used to enhance the results of these technologies. Taken together, skin can now be contoured, not unlike lipoplasty, whereby fat can be removed or shaped. Skin can now be qualitatively improved, sometimes after surgery and sometimes as part of a non-surgical skin tightening procedure, giving patients tighter, younger-looking skin and unparalleled natural results.
