Fat Grafting to Breasts
Conveniently located to serve Greenwich, CT; White Plains, NY; and Boston, MA
If you’re looking for an alternative to implant-based breast augmentation with a physician who has decades of experience, Dr. Kornstein is available to perform fat grafting to the breasts in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Patients who seek breast enhancement without the use of saline or silicone implants are naturally attracted to this procedure. Furthermore, fat grafting can also be performed in combination with implants to help camouflage them or to harmonize the transition between breast and décolleté, making the feminine chest more natural, with and without clothes.
What Is Fat Grafting to the Breasts?
Fat grafting to breasts combines liposuction and fat injection to remove and reposition fat cells, improving the size of the breasts while improving donor site contour. Fat is harvested from various parts of the body using a small cannula. The suctioned fatty tissue will be purified to harvest the viable fat cells. These cells are then injected into the breasts to enlarge the specific regions according to patient need—a customized augmentation.
Depending on the amount of harvested fat, patients can go up a cup or more in breast size with fat grafting. Excess stubborn fat may be harvested from the thighs, knees, back, flank, abdomen, or arms. Since the procedure is less invasive than traditional implant surgery, the recovery period is shorter and scarless.
Good Candidates for Fat Grafting to Breasts
The ideal candidate is someone who is in good overall health and a non-smoker (better circulation for fat survival). You are recommended for autologous fat grafting if you have ample excess fat in other areas of your body. If you have low body fat, you may not be a good candidate for fat transfer to the breasts. Similarly, patients who experience drastic weight fluctuations or are obese may not be advised to undergo this breast-enhancement procedure.
Your Consultation
During your consultation for fat grafting, a physical examination will be performed. Photographs may be taken for before-and-after comparison. Assessment of body fat will be conducted to ensure you have enough tissue to work with.
Your medical history will be reviewed, including pre-existing conditions, current medications, and past surgeries. You will discuss your motivations and goals, which will be considered when creating your detailed treatment plan.
The Procedure
The fat grafting procedure begins with the administration of anesthesia. Depending on the elaborateness of the procedure, general or local anesthesia will be administered. Markings will be made for fat harvesting and reinjection. Then, through liposuction, fat tissue will be suctioned from the determined fat donor areas.
Once the tissue has been purified, it will be injected to key areas of the breasts until the ideal outcome is achieved. The whole procedure can take a few hours.
The Recovery Process
During your recovery period, you may feel some discomfort. This is usually associated with the liposuction areas. Bruising, swelling, and pain (rare) may be experienced but can be alleviated with prescribed medications. You will be required to wear compression garments to help support donor site skin shrinkage and a surgical bra to help the treated areas heal.
You may need several days off from work or school. Avoid putting pressure on your breasts. Sleep on your back until the swelling wears off. Avoid strenuous activities for several weeks to ensure proper healing.
How Much Does Fat Grafting to Breasts Cost?
Because it is a purely cosmetic procedure, the cost of fat grafting to breasts is not covered by insurance. The expenses will include the anesthetic and procedural fees. The complexity of the procedure and the number of donor sites requiring liposuction may impact the overall price.
