Recovery and Aftercare
Timeline of Recovery:
- The first two days are the most uncomfortable, if not painful, days post-operation. The pain level gradually drops to a "nagging discomfort" within five to seven days.
- Rest is essential during the initial days, with strict avoidance of aspirin or certain anti-inflammatory medications.
- Walking is encouraged the day after surgery to discourage swelling and prevent blood clots.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for four to six weeks.
- Follow-up visits within five days may involve drain removal. Swelling should decrease within five weeks.
Aftercare Instructions:
- We recommend strict adherence to prescribed pain medications and their schedules.
- Assistance at home is vital; do not engage in heavy lifting for four to six weeks.
- Drain care, bandage changes, and showering guidelines will be provided by your surgeon.
- Wear the prescribed wide elastic compression garment for several weeks to reduce swelling and provide skin support.
- No smoking after the procedure to prevent complications.
- Abstain from alcohol for five days post-surgery or while taking pain medication.
- Arrange for someone to assist with mobility and medication for at least the first three days.
