There are several factors that need to be considered when determining if a person is a good candidate for liposuction. This includes the amount of fat in the areas being targeted and the quality of the skin in those areas.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed to contour the body by removing precise amounts of fat cells from the fat layer between the skin and the muscles. The procedure is typically performed using a blunt-tipped cannula that is inserted under the skin through a small incision.
There are nerves, ligaments, and arteries that run through the two layers where the fat is located; the blunt tip of the cannula helps to prevent damaging or severing these structures. The cannula is carefully manipulated to loosen the fat cells from the surrounding tissue, and then the loosened fatty tissue is suctioned out through the cannula.
Liposuction can be used to reduce excess fat in a number of areas. This procedure can remove stubborn fat from the abdomen, upper arms, thighs, knees, back, buttocks, ankles, and hips. It can also address excess fat in the chin and neck.
While liposuction is an excellent option for enhancing the overall shape of various areas of the body, it should be noted that liposuction is not intended for weight loss. While areas of fat are removed during the procedure, it is not designed to eliminate large amounts of body fat.
The ideal candidate for liposuction is already at or near their ideal weight. Any weight fluctuations after liposuction have the potential to negatively affect the procedure’s results.
What About Loose Skin?
When performed by a skilled and experienced surgeon, liposuction is able to sculpt the fat cells in the targeted area around the curves of the body to create natural-looking contours. However, if skin elasticity is poor, liposuction alone may not be able to provide the desired results. The skin will not shrink to highlight the created contours and may instead droop and create wrinkles.
In cases where skin elasticity is an issue, J-Plasma/Renuvion treatments can be performed in combination with liposuction. This pairing helps to tighten the skin and provide the desired results.
J-Plasma/Renuvion uses helium plasma technology to tighten the skin over the new contours created by liposuction, which enhances the overall appearance of the area. J-Plasma/Renuvion has been proven to be a safe and highly effective treatment option. It is capable of providing long-lasting and beautiful results when performed by a skilled surgeon.
