Dr. Kornstein was an investigator for the safety of silicone breast implants during the FDA clinical trials. Often called upon for his expert opinion in revisional breast surgery, Dr. Kornstein was invited by Allergen® to participate in its pre-global release of SERI® surgical scaphold for breast surgery. He currently serves on their SERI® advisory panel for both breast and body.
Dr. Kornstein is a pioneer in the use of fat grafting (with over 20 years of experience) including the breast and chest wall area, both as an isolated procedure or in combination with implants. His time tested technique optimizes symmetry and contour of the breast while minimizing implant-related palpability. He believes the breast and chest wall are one aesthetic unit and should be treated as such. His specialized skills give both the breast augmentation and the reconstruction patient a natural, realistic result.
Dr. Kornstein’s work on subcutaneous mastectomy breast reconstruction and revisional cosmetic augmentation is published in a paper sponsored by Life Cell Corporation, makers of Alloderm® and Strattice®, leaders in the use of Acellular Dermal Matrix for breast reconstruction. He published a report that emphasizes the importance of identifying patients who are at high risk for post-surgical complications and recommends the construction of an “internal bra” to support the breast, reducing or eliminating implant-related complications. Similarly, the use of SERI® surgical scaphold optimizes both longevity of the result as well as scar quality in mastopexy of the breast.
