BREAST REDUCTION – LIFTS

“According to my patients, the combination of aesthetic and functional benefits of breast reduction is nothing short of dramatic in terms of how they feel and look postoperatively.”

What patients need to know about breast reduction

Breast reduction surgery is considered by patients seeking either aesthetic improvement or purely functional reasons—but oftentimes, both.

There are a wide variety of techniques that can be employed to optimize aesthetics.

The most frequent downside: post operatively it unmasks other unaesthetic regions.

Breast reductions are not painful debilitating procedures.

Breast reduction surgery is considered by patients seeking either aesthetic improvement or purely functional reasons—but oftentimes, both. Some women suffer a lifetime of self consciousness from overly large or sagging breasts, or breasts that are out of proportion to their body. Others endure back pain, shoulder grooves or skin rashes leading them to consider this surgery for functional reasons. Whether psychological or physical pain is involved, a breast reduction can literally change your lifestyle along with your self image. Some insurance companies will agree to help their subscribers pay for their procedures. Our office can help you with your insurance claim.

There are a wide variety of techniques that can be employed to optimize aesthetics. The most commonly used procedure during breast reduction is liposuction. I also recommend the “lollipop” incision which rearranges the underlying breast tissue resulting in dramatic aesthetic results. These are important parts of the surgical plan if you want breasts that are both reduced and cosmetically beautiful. As an early pioneer of this technique since 1990, my experience helps deliver consistently exceptional results.

The most frequent downside: post operatively it unmasks other unaesthetic regions. When one area of the body is improved, it makes sense that surrounding “unimproved” areas may become more pronounced and perhaps benefit by an adjunct procedure. I do the best I can to bring these to your attention during the initial consultation, but the decision is always yours.

Breast reductions are not painful debilitating procedures. Years ago, breast reductions were treated almost like mastectomies where a hospital stay was required. Today, they are done as an outpatient procedure in our surgery center. Frequently, only Tylenol is required for discomfort. For a couple days after surgery, drains are often used to remove post operative fluid, facilitating healing. Breast sensation is retained in well over 90% of patients.
