Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces breast size while improving shape and nipple-areolar position. This solution to back pain, persistent rashes beneath the breasts, and posture problems has helped millions breathe easier and live with less anxiety. For more details about breast reductions in Fairfield County, patients can contact Dr. Andrew Kornstein’s office.

Good Candidates for a Breast Reduction

Patients looking for a way to reduce the issues caused by oversized breasts are good candidates for a breast reduction procedure. Along with the aforementioned chronic pain issues, large breasts can cause self-consciousness, body image problems, and difficulty performing various physical activities.

This cosmetic solution is not recommended for smokers or those suffering from obesity. Patients who are planning on having more children should consider getting the procedure at a later date.

Your Consultation

When patients come in for their breast reduction consultation with Dr. Kornstein, the doctor will ask them about the problems they are experiencing due to their breasts. He will perform a physical examination, and photographs may be taken for reference and analysis.

Patients will need to answer questions about their family history of breast cancer, personal medical history, and general health. Dr. Kornstein will also want to know about past procedures, current medications and supplements, and allergies.

Dr. Kornstein will decide if a “scarless reduction” is an option or if the patient is better suited for a short scar technique. Once the path forward has been decided, he will explain the breast reduction process in detail, including preparation and aftercare directions. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and bring up any concerns that they may have.

The Procedure

The breast reduction procedure is accomplished in Dr. Kornstein’s approved surgery center, where one of his anesthesiologists will administer a light form of general anesthesia to ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.

Dr. Kornstein most frequently uses a technique he developed that fills the empty upper part of the breast under the collar bone, produces an “augmentation-like” shape, and improves the longevity of the result. This is all accomplished through a short scar “lollipop” scar.

Breast Reduction Recovery

Patients can expect minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising during the recovery period following breast reduction. However, this is most often a “Tylenol” recovery. Tubes may be placed to drain the excess blood and fluid in the affected areas. Medication will be provided to help with the inflammation and to prevent infection.

Certain physical activities must be limited during the first four weeks of recovery. Exceptions include light exercises such as short strolls. Time off from work will be required, generally a week.

How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?

The price of a breast reduction will vary from patient to patient. Factors that can impact the total cost may include the techniques used, the amount of tissue removed, and total surgical time. The factors affecting the cost of a breast reduction procedure will be discussed during the consultation.
