Myth: Breast augmentation is widely available and does not require advanced techniques. The fact is, not every practitioner is as discriminating or experienced in the correct principles. Options for incision location, type of implant and size of implant all influence the result. It is not just a matter of filling a pocket. There is a broad range of fees published for breast augmentation. Lower fees may be seductive, but this is an instance where you truly get what you pay for.
Correcting congenital breast deformities is a specialty unto itself. Returning an aged or droopy breast to normal or enlarging it is one skill, however, treating congenital breast deformities—whether tubular, constricted, or part of a scoliosis syndrome is quite another. These procedures often require more glandular alteration and when carried out early in life can significantly affect the patient’s psychological development.
Experience, technique and attention to detail make all the difference. I have been doing breast augmentation for over twenty years. In national rankings, I am one of Allergan’s largest users of their implants and was appointed an early investigator for silicone gel devices. Most importantly, my reputation for very natural looking breasts has led to very high satisfaction rates with my patients. My patients have low revision rates which can be attributed to the techniques I use during surgery that discourage complications.
Don’t ignore the total picture. Sometimes adjacent areas of your body will come into play in order to give you the result you are looking for. These may involve sculpting a waist or enhancing the body’s silhouette. Subtle correction of the chest wall, or décolletage can lead to an incredibly comprehensive enhancement. By treating both the breasts and the décolletage, waist, or silhouette (all more clearly noticed after breast enhancement) you avoid calling attention to an area which may appear compromised when unimproved when postoperatively compared with the breasts.
Some women need a breast lift along with augmentation for the proper result. Ptosis, or drooping of the breasts can be caused by genetics, age and gravity or pregnancy and nursing. An implant will enlarge your breasts, but will not lift them. Placing an implant in a breast that is sagging will only accentuate the drooping breast which is the antithesis of creating a youthful, perkier bustline. Many women are scared of lifts and their scars. I have mastered many unique internal techniques that may allow you to avoid scars when a lift is required, resulting in a highly aesthetic outcome, not just a breast without scars.
Select the right surgeon the first time. One of my specialties is revisional breast surgery. I correct complications and poor outcomes including solving capsular contracture (hardening of the breasts,) malposition, implant displacement, asymmetry and rippling issues in patients who have had up to eight surgeries elsewhere. You save nothing if you have to repeat a procedure two or more times.
